Hear Trivium’s Ripping, New B-Side “Drowning in the Sound”

Trivium are about to hit the road in Europe, starting next month, and though they don’t have a new album out or even on the horizon, the band has been keeping fans busy, dropping a slew of previously unreleased material over recent weeks. The band — singer-guitarist Matt Heafy, guitarist-vocalist Corey Beaulieu, bassist-vocalist Paolo Gregoletto and new drummer Alex Bent, who joined 2017 — have offered up a re-recorded version of “Pillar of Serpents”, a rare cover of Type O Negative’s “I Don’t Wanna Be Me” and now they’ve unleashed a previously unreleased B-side, “Drowning in the Sound,” from the recording sessions for The Sin and the Sentence. That album, Bent’s first with the group, was released in 2017 and produced by Josh Wilbur.

According to Beaulieu, Trivium likely won’t release a follow-up LP until 2020 at earliest. “We always are writing during downtime, so there’s always demos of riffs or songs or half a song,” he told radio station 90.3 WMSC late last year. “So we do have stuff to get started on, but we still have more touring later next year for this record. So, realistically, there probably won’t be anything until the following year. But maybe there will be a single for the record whenever — sometime later in the year.

“So we’re definitely excited to start on new material, but we’re not gonna rush anything out at the moment. Matt’s having kids, so we got parental leave from touring for a little while.” Hear “Drowning in the Sound” below.
